AND SO THE FESTIVAL IS OVER.......

A huge thank you to every one who contributed and came along to the second
Bruny Bird Festival in October 2012.  What a great time we had - despite some
inclement weather in the early days.
Below are some of the social highlights.
The birdwatching tours were very popular in fact were often over-subscribed
so hopefully we can muster more guides for next time to accommodate all who
want to find out more about the birds of Bruny Island.

Next festival tentative dates 23-26 October, 2014

2012 Bird Festival Opening

We were very lucky to have Kingborough Mayor, Dr Graham Bury and Sean
Dooley, author and editor of Australian Birdlife to officially open the festival.
Even luckier to have a chattering flock of endangered swift parrots
swoop in overhead during the proceedings!

Festival participants were treated to entertainment by renowned
Bruny Island guitarist Julius Schwing and his trio and the
enthusisatic Bruny Ukelele group. The backdrop is an amazing
life size depiction of wingspans of birds of the area created by
Bruny artist Barry Weston.

Market day was a very busy affair with a fantastic array
of stalls, food and entertainment. A couple of wayward
penguins joined the fun.

A highlight of the festival was the superbly presented
exhibition of beautiful artworks and photography.

For the first time a literary event was held with poetry
readings of some of the entries. A quality publication
of both the images and writings for this festival is
being pepared for release prior to the 2014 festival.

Another new item was the popular gatepost bird
sculpture competition.
